Unfortunately, my DSL went down during my break. Fortunately, Eric and Jeff
are nice enough to host it on their server. Nice. The rest of the site
will be back up as soon as I get around to it.

So I had dinner at the Hilton in Universal City tonight. There’s this great
buffet there. Prime rib, Alaskan king crab legs, lobster, sushi, mash
potatoes, etc. I’d like to take my friends over there sometime. Of course
I do have this friend who is anti-buffet. But I won’t mention his/her name.
I’ll just call him/her Vonney Angw, or Von for short. So Von, for some
reason or another, says that [s]he won’t eat at buffets anymore. So there
has to be some way that I can trick into going there. This place is suppose
to be a fancy place, but it’s not like I dress up for it. So they’ll be no
way for Von to know. So one day I’ll ask Von, “let’s go eat.” And then the
plan is set. [S]he’ll ask where to eat, and I’ll just say, “oh… we’ll just
drive around.” For some reason I’ll just have to take the 210 west to
Hollywood and we’ll be there. And then BAM! [S]he’ll have to eat the food.
Nice plan, huh?

I hope “Von” reads this. You can’t stop me!

Subject: Urgent: Update regarding your Verio DSL Connection on the NorthPoint Network

Dear Valued Verio DSL Customer,

Verio is committed to providing quality services to our customers, and we
want to provide you with an update on the situation with NorthPoint
Communications we initially notified you of last Thursday, March 22.

NorthPoint just informed us that the “cessation of services to customers and
the complete shutdown of their network is imminent.” Verio was obviously
disappointed to have just learned of their sudden decision to discontinue
its services. Given this regrettable situation, which unfortunately is out
of our control, we anticipate that your DSL connection will be terminated at
any time. We apologize for the inconvenience this shutdown will bring.
However, Verio is committed to actively working with current DSL customers
to maintain immediate access to email and basic web connectivity as well as
discussing and providing the best alternative access solutions.

Arrangements have been made for you to temporarily use a Verio dial-up
account for the next 60 days, free of charge. To take advantage of this,
please call 1-800-551-1630 and select the following options when prompted:
Access Support (option 4); DSL services (option 2, and then NorthPoint
(option 3). Obviously there will not be an early termination fee from Verio
for terminating your service with Verio due to this situation.

In addition, to best suit your needs, we have made other options available
to you.

If you would like to upgrade to a dedicated connection, such as a T-1 line
or a dedicated server, please contact Verio Sales at 1-877-837-4609. Verio
has arranged a special program for current Verio DSL customers on the
NorthPoint network interested in a T1 upgrade, and will be available to
discuss other solutions for your business needs.

If you prefer to continue using a DSL connection, Verio has entered into an
arrangement with EarthLink to offer a solution to current Verio DSL
customers on the NorthPoint network. Customers may contact EarthLink
directly to receive more details: by phone at 1-888-743-5438, and wait for
the Verio prompt to receive more information or at www.verio.com/northpoint
for more details and to register online if desired. Please note that if you
choose this option, EarthLink will be your sole provider and point of
contact for DSL moving forward, including installation/transition, billing,
and support. If you have other services through Verio, such as web hosting,
Verio will continue to bill and support those services to you directly.

Once again, we apologize for the effect this may have on you and/or your
organization. We will continue to provide information updates with any new
details that would impact you. For the official NorthPoint press release
related to this matter, please go to http://www.northpoint.net

If you have any additional questions, please contact us at the number below
for support.

Thank you,

So it seems like my DSL will be going down shortly. Which means chriswong.org
will be going down shortly. Well, if all goes well, I’ll have my site back up
without much delay. If not, I’m going to have to find a temporary home for it.
Jeff? Eric?

Or maybe I should upgrade to that T-1 service. That wouldn’t be bad.

Dang. I don’t know when I can go to sleep. They’re showing Law and Order
on A&E straight til 4:00am. I don’t know when I can go to sleep.

Dang. I wanted so much for Traffic to win tonight. I was expecting
Gladiator would win, but I definitely didn’t want that movie to win.
But once Soderbergh won for Best Director, that really surprised me
and I got my hopes up. Dang. I wanted Tom Hanks to win too. Damn

Cool. I got my new Apache up. Now I have SSL built in too. Got to
learn how to use that.

Wow! I never imagined this would happen. After 115 great days, my Linux
box went down. It crashed. That was surprising. I thought I would make
200 days before I had to shut it down. It might have been my CS server
that brought my computer down. I’m not sure.

Wow! There is an actual Intercourse, Pennsylvania. Thanks Simpsons.

This is crap. Here’s an email I just received from Verio, Inc.

More reasons why I like Jerry Stackhouse. I loved it when he socked
Reggie Miller a few years ago, but here’s part of the outtakes from his
interview with Dan Partick on espn.go.com.

DP: What’s the music attached to your highlight reel?
JS: Anything by Method Man. Or Redman.
DP: Method Redman?
JS: Come on, Dan. You should know these artists.
DP: I do, I’m just kidding there. You know I’m down.

DP: Where have all the great nicknames gone?
JS: I don’t know. The Regulator: that’s my nickname that nobody really knows about. And I have my own nickname for Kobe nobody knows: Showboat.
DP: He may not like that.
JS: I never worry too much about that.

Damn straight. Kobe sucks. I have another nickname for Kobe. Hero Bryant.
Always trying to be the hero.
